Speaker: Ryan S. Meyers, Pennsylvania Sentencing Commission Manager of Education and Outreach

Description: This seminar will highlight Amendment 6 to the 7th Edition Sentencing Guidelines and Amendment 1 to the Resentencing Guidelines as well as highlight proposals being considered and developed by the Commission on Sentencing.

About the Speaker:  Mr. Meyers is employed by the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing, an agency of the General Assembly. He was hired by the Commission as a Sentencing Policy Specialist in 2013 and worked in this capacity until 2018. In 2018, he was promoted to Manager of the Education and Outreach Unit. His work focuses on developing and delivering educational and outreach opportunities to criminal justice stakeholders; policy development, support, and implementation; and promoting best practices to ensure data quality. As a result, Mr. Meyers frequently engages with legislative members and their staff, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and court staff (e.g., probation/parole and court administration) to accomplish the Commission’s various legislative mandates and duties. Mr. Meyers is an adjunct instructor for the Sociology and Criminology Department at The Pennsylvania State University, where he teaches undergraduate courses in Criminology and Sentencing. Prior to his work with the Commission, Mr. Meyers served as a Probation Officer and DUI Court Program Coordinator for the Court of Common Pleas of Centre County (PA); and as a Youth Development Aide at the South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit, a maximum-security youth placement facility. Mr. Meyers received a B.A. degree in Crime, Law, and Justice and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
